You can never have enough baskets! They are such a great and attractive way of keeping things organized. This Chunky Crochet Basket Pattern is perfect for storing books and toys or any other items you want to corral.

Chunky Crochet Basket Pattern

Here’s what you will need:
- 1 skein super bulky yarn (approx. 64 yds; I used Bernat Mega Bulky in Olympia Blue)
- 19 US / 15 mm crochet hook
- large yarn needle and scissors
Finished basket measures approximately 9 in. wide × 5½ in. tall.

Ch 6.
Round 1: Work 1 hdc in 3rd ch from hook (skipped ch counts as 1 hdc), 1 hdc in each of the next 2 ch, 5 hdc in last; working along opposite side of chain and sts, work 1 hdc in each of the next 3 ch, 4 hdc in next, join in top of beg ch 2 — 16 sts.
Round 2: Ch 2 (counts as 1 hdc here and throughout), work 1 hdc in each of the next 4 sts, 2 hdc in next, 1 hdc in next, 2 hdc in next, 1 hdc in next 5 sts, 2 hdc in next, 1 hdc in next, 2 hdc in next, join in top of beg ch 2 — 20 sts.
Round 3: Ch 2, work 1 hdc in each of the next 4 sts, 2 hdc in each of the next 2 sts, 1 hdc in next, 2 hdc in each of the next 2 sts, 1 hdc in next 5 sts, 2 hdc in each of the next 2 sts, 1 hdc in next, 2 hdc in each of the next 2 sts, join in top of beg ch 2 — 28 sts.
Round 4: Ch 2, work 1 hdc in the back loop only of each st around, join in top of beg ch 2 — 28 sts.
Rounds 5 through 7: Ch 2, work 1 hdc in each st around, join in top of beg ch 2 — 28 sts.
Round 8: Loosely Sl st in each st around, join — 28 sts.
Fasten off, weave in ends.

Any suggestions as to how to make a handle?
I also have a hard time with my baskets not flopping, and interested in the millenery wire and fasteners, I have never heard of this either. Could you please add to the post on how to do this? Thank you, pattern looks great!
How would you make sides of this basket stiff enough to remain upright in order to hold its contents?
