The basket is worked in a continuous spiral; do not join at the end of each round. Use a stitch marker to mark the first stitch in each round.

Round 2: Work 2 sc in each st around — 12 sts.
Round 3: *Work 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st, repeat from * around — 18 sts.

Rounds 9 through 17: Work 1 sc in each st around — 48 sts.
Round 18: *Sc2tog, 1 sc in each of the next 6 sts, repeat from * around — 42 sts.

Slip stitch in next st and fasten off. Weave in ends.

With white yarn, ch 10.
Row 1: Work 1 sc in 2nd st from hook and each ch across, turn — 9 sts.
Rows 2 and 3: Ch 1, work 1 sc in each st across, turn — 9 sts.
Row 4: Ch 1, sc2tog, work 1 sc in each of the next 5 sts, sc2tog, turn — 7 sts.

Row 16: Ch 1, sc3tog, do not turn — 1 sts.

Finishing
Using a yarn needle and length of white yarn, sew ears to top of each side of basket. Stitch tops of ears together to form a handle. Weave in ends. Tie a colored bow around ear as shown if desired. Using white yarn, make a pom pom of about 2 in. in diameter. Sew pom pom to the bottom center of the back of your basket. If desired, you can place a circular piece of cork or cardboard to add extra support to the bottom.
Now just fill with treats and enjoy!

this was a nice pattern and not too hard. I used a safety nose and safety eyes. I’m going to crochet a little piece to go over those and the back of the eyes protrude and don’t look nice. I made the eggs using the Darco Mandela yarn and they came out multicolored and so pretty. Thank you for the pattern.

Safety eyes are sharp at the back… any suggestions?

Each month the church deliverers good bags to the shut in members. When I saw this pattern I knew it was what I needed to make for April. I adjusted the pattern to make it larger and used a double strand worsted weight white yarn. I made 14 of the larger size bunny baskets and am finishing 24 regular size baskets for my little friends using the pattern as directed. It is so easy to make and the finished basket is just too cute! Thank you for sharing your pattern!
Robarber says
Aunt Dianne, what was the increase on the pattern to make it a large?
Porcia straw says
This was such a fun project! The instructions were easy to follow and it worked up so quickly. It’s so cute. I was only going to make one but it worked up so fast I think I can make several more before Easter. Thank you for all the time and effort you put into this pattern. Porcia

Made a larger version unsung two strands of worsted weight (UK Aran) and an 8mm hook looked great.
Kara Gunza says
Yay!

How can I make the handle stay up. Did I do something wrong. The handle (ears) just flop down into the basket
Kara Gunza says
Sounds like your gauge must be a little looser which results in a drapey fabric instead of a stiff, dense one. You can try to use pipe cleaners on the inside of the handles to keep them up.

Made this adorable mini basket yesterday- so adorable and simple to follow directions. Thanks for a great pattern. Today I’m going to try Beth’s suggestion to make a larger basket using two strands and an 8mm hook – or maybe.a bulky weight yarn may work? Thanks for a well written pattern.

I totally enjoyed this project , I know that I can’t wait to see the expression on my granddaughters face when I give this to her she will be 4 , 2 days before Easter . Thank you so much!
sharron craner says
I made this . I made [ 4 ] ears, INSTEAD OF 2 , then bent a pipe cleaner in half, twisted it and tied it to top and bottom of ear running it down the middle of ear, then I sc around. ear as round 16. This made it stronger.

I made this for my granddaughter & love it, thank you for sharing this pattern. However, my ears droop. Any suggestions?
Kara says
Hi Becky 🙂 You might be able to use some pipe cleaners to support the ears.
