A few months back I posted about how my son begged me to buy this adorable Top This Yarn at my local yarn store (it was so cute that it wasn’t too difficult to say yes!). He loves the lovey I made for him with it (you can get the free crochet pattern for the lovey here), but now has asked me to make him a matching hat. So make one I did, and of course wanted to share the crochet hat pattern with you. Enjoy!

Round 1: Ch 1 (does not count as stitch here and throughout), work 8 hdc in ring, join to first hdc — 8 sts.
Round 2: Ch 1, work 2 hdc in same stitch as join and each st around, join to first hdc — 16 sts.
Round 3: Ch 1, work 2 hdc in same stitch as join, 1 hdc in next, *2 hdc in next, 1 hdc in next, repeat from * around, join to first hdc — 24 sts.
Round 4: Ch 1, work 2 hdc in same stitch as join, 1 hdc in each of the next 2 sts, *2 hdc in next, 1 hdc in each of the next 2 sts, repeat from * around, join to first hdc — 32 sts.
Round 5: Ch 1, work 2 hdc in same stitch as join, 1 hdc in each of the next 3 sts, *2 hdc in next, 1 hdc in each of the next 3 sts, repeat from * around, join to first hdc — 40 sts.
Round 6: Ch 1, work 2 hdc in same stitch as join, 1 hdc in each of the next 4 sts, *2 hdc in next, 1 hdc in each of the next 4 sts, repeat from * around, join to first hdc — 48 sts.
Rounds 7 through 14: Ch 1, work 1 hdc in each st around, join to first hdc — 48 sts.
Rounds 15 and 16: Ch 1, work 1 hdc in same st as join, 1 FPdc around post of next st, *1 hdc in next stitch, FPdc around post of next st, repeat from * around, join to first hdc — 48 sts.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With a yarn needle, attach animal head to the middle of the top of hat by weaving ribbons on the head through the inside stitches. Weave each ribbon in a separate direction through a few stitches and knot ends together to secure. Snip ribbon ends short enough to be hidden but long enough to untie for washing

So adorable! Did you have to add extra yarn to the ball that comes with the little stuffed animal or was the ball enough?

Did you buy the Top This Knit Hat kit and then make the directions from above to crochet the hat instead of knitting?
Kara says
I used the Top This yarn with the included plushy head. I’m not sure whether that would be considered a “kit” or not.

I made the Bunny Hat for my daughter several months ago, no pattern just measured her head as I crocheted. Thank you for sharing your pattern, my daughter wants more hats.
