Hello everyone! My name is Megan and I am the “hooker” behind CrescentMoonCrochet. I have been crocheting and knitting since my daughter was born, over 15 years now. Crocheting is my outlet and you will usually find me with a hook in my hand whenever I have a few free minutes.
When I first saw Kara’s Tunisian stitch designs, I fell in love. I had done some Tunisian before, but usually just the basic stitch. Inspiration hit hard for a design for every month. I created my designs and sent them to Kara, who kindly agreed offered to host the CAL (thank you, Kara!).
This month’s design is personally one of my favorites. February usually brings thought of Valentine’s Day for everyone. However, for me, February means more. My sister’s birthday is just before Valentine’s Day and my anniversary is just over a week after Valentine’s Day, so I feel extra love during the month. And what better way to express that love than with a heart. This design is very simple, can be customized however you wish, and works up quickly. I hope you enjoy and love it as much as I do!
February Tunisian Crochet Dishcloth Pattern
Here is what you will need:
- worsted weight cotton yarn (approx. 82 yds)
- J10/6mm Tunisian hook
- scissors and yarn needle
Finished dishcloth measures approximately 8½ in. × 8½ in.
Add this pattern to your Ravelry library.
Tunisian Crochet Abbreviations (you can click on links to review the “how to” for each stitch):
Ch 30.
Set up row: Pull up through the back ridge of each ch across — 30 sts (Noted as the first row of circles).
Work pattern as charted above taking note of the following:
• when working your forward pass, the loop on your hook counts as the first stitch (indicated as a circle in the chart)
• the last stitch is made through the two end loops of row below (also indicated as a circle in the chart).
• a basic return pass should be used throughout (i.e., yo, draw through 1 loop, *yo, draw through 2 loops, rep from * across).
• Row 35 should be worked as a bind off row; work Trs bind off (Noted as the last row of circles).
KEY: Circle = first/last stitch; Color = Trs; White = Tks.

Just occurred to me , the red on the graph is indicating the reverse stitch , not another color. I’m new to Tunisian. So , if I want to make the red heart on the graph I will just switch colors and to the reverse stitch. Correct?
I would like to make the February potholder but am wondering how you do one stitch on the row in white and then one in red then most of the row in white. I can see joining the red for row 2 in red and working across but the 3rd row is different. Do you join the red for one stitch and then carry up. A video on this would be helpful. Thanks.
please forgive my ignorance but I have not done tunisian before…….not sure how to read the chart to achieve the pattern……??? I have done the chain, the set up row and and a row of tks and the return pass…… do I continue with this until I get to the heart pattern? and then is the heart done in the trs??…..again, please forgive my stupidity. I am a seasoned crocheter but just have never tried the tunisian up to this point but think these dishcloths are so darn cute and I have had all the tunisian supplies for some time, just never have taken the time to try it out. Decided this was the time…..thanks so much, Darla
Hi Darla 🙂 So glad you decided to try it out! It sounds like you are ready to start the graphed stitches now. The white squares indicate a Tunisian Knit Stitch and the colored squares indicate a Tunisian Reverse Stitch. Follow the charted stitches across the row and then work a basic return pass. Hope that helps!
