This Curlicue Spiral Scarf Pattern is created by making different lengths of crochet corkscrew spirals. It is so much fun to make … and wear!! The pattern below includes instructions to make a double crochet corkscrew and a half double crochet corkscrew, both in varying lengths. Make one to wear alone or wear them together for a stacked look like the photo below.
The key to making crochet curlicues is to increase in each stitch through the row so the piece starts to spiral. Once you get the feel for making these spirals you won’t want to stop! They also work great for amigurumi creations and dolly curlicues.

What is the difference, other than the number of starting stitches which gives you two different graduated lengths, between SMALL and MEDIUM ~ both are written “put three half double crochet into each chain stitch”.
It almost seems like it should be:
1) treble stitch
2) double stitch
3) half-double stitch.
which would give you: large, medium, small.

New to crocheting so pardon my ignorance. In large chain the stitch is 3 double crochets but for the medium and small chains the stitch is 3 half double crochets — is this correct or should they all be half double crochets — number of stitches making the three different sizes?
Kara says
Hi Kathy 🙂 Yes, that is correct as the medium and small sizes are meant to be a little smaller in circumference as well as length. Hope that helps!

In your i tro you say the key to getting the curique is to i crease through the stitch etc but on the lattern it js just plain stitching. Am I missing something here? If so please excuse my silliness.
Monica says
The increase she’s talking about is that you’re doing 3 hdc’s in every chain stitch. So with so many stitches together in one chain stitch it will start to spiral all on it’s own as you go.
Kara says
You are correct … thanks so much for helping 🙂
