If you’re looking for a super easy knit hat pattern this is it! It works up quickly with a skein of bulky weight yarn and is a great hat pattern for beginners.
This pattern is written for a standard adult size but can be easily modified to fit any size with this handy Hat Sizing Guide.
Easy Knit Hat Pattern for Beginners

Here is what you will need:
- 1 skein bulky weight yarn, approximately 312 yd. (shown here in Lion Brand Scarfie in the Cranberry/Black colorway)
- US 9 / 5.5 mm needles (I used a 32″ cord and the magic loop method; for other methods use a short cord and switch to DPNs for the crown) stitch marker
- scissors and yarn needle for finishing
- pom pom, optional (I used this faux fur pom pom that I purchased from Jimmy Beans Wool)

That’s it … you’re done! Ready for a little more of a challenge now? Try my Nordic Knit Hat Pattern. It’s still an easy knit hat pattern but with a little added interest with alternating sections of knit and purl rows. And you should still have enough yarn from your skein to make it!
